W J Meade has been a strong driving force in the property market throughout East London since we opened our first office in Walthamstow in 1953. Since then, we have worked all across East London, having offices in Bow/ Mile End, Bethnal Green, Canary Wharf and Stratford, building a reputation as a reliable and professional agent. We have been in the Bow/ Mile End area since 1995, but moved to our spectacular 1700sq foot office in 2000 (under the famous green bridge). Due to its grandeur and central location to the rest of East London, we decided to make our Bow/ Mile End office a ‘superhub’ where all business functions are run.

Having been in the Bow & Mile End area for over 30 years, we are the longest standing independent agent who understands the importance of building relationships within the local community. It is this ethos along with our wealth of experience and market knowledge which has helped grow our presence and reputation to what it is today.

We are proud to be a family run business and only the third owners since 1953. Mike Maddin has been in the industry since the 80s, having worked his way up from a sales negotiator through a management route and then to a director and owner. His son Billy joined the company in 2017 to help drive the Property Management department and to ensure compliance matters were being met. Since then, he has worked with in all aspects of the business as well as completing his Level 4 Diploma in Residential Letting & Management and now is a fellow director and business owner.

Unlike many agents, both business owners are central team members and are based within the office. Our ‘superhub’ in Bow/ Mile End now has 17 team members, and all business functions are run from this central office, from; Sales and Lettings to Property Management and Accounts. What our clients appreciate is that whether they call, email or walk into our office, there is always someone available to assist them with their query. Whilst the housing market continues to change, we are proud to have maintained our traditional estate agency roots. Good quality customer service is a rarity nowadays, but we always step up to the mark. Meet The Team

William Maddin

William Maddin Managing Director

William (or more commonly known as Billy) has a varied role within W J Meade, but his biggest responsibility is heading up the Lettings & Property Management teams. Keeping our properties and landlords protected takes up the majority of his time, but he also deals with marketing, training and recruitment. Over the past few years, the lettings industry has seen many legislative changes and it is Billy’s job to implement them.

Michael Whitby

Michael Whitby Branch Manager

Valuer Michael has been with W J Meade since 2004, pretty much straight from university and heads up our sales team. He has an overview on all aspects of the business however his day-to-day responsibilities revolve around property valuations and sales. From the initial marketing to the importance of sales progression (dealing with solicitors and mortgage brokers) through to a seamless exchange and completion. His unrivalled local knowledge and experience is a true asset to W J Meade and has also proved to be for so many clients past, present and future.

Georgia Whittlesey

Georgia Whittlesey Lettings Manager

Georgia is one of the senior lettings managers at WJMeade, managing a large number of properties as part of our East London portfolio. Her role is vary varied, managing both the day to day letting of properties as well as assisting the property management department and mentoring staff. She is always on hand if her tenants or landlords need her and is constantly praised for her personal approach.

Billy Collins

Billy Collins Sales Manager

Billy’s W J Meade journey started in 2006, working his way up from a trainee negotiator to his current position as Sales Manager. He thrives on working in such a vibrant area, across all different types of properties and prides himself on building relationships with clients, relishing the history behind many of the properties that we sell. Vendors and purchasers alike entrust Billy due to his vast local knowledge and that he always goes over and above to deliver distinctive service. These traits have helped him become one of the areas most established and successful estate agents.

Mike has owned WJMeade since 1992 and is proud to be only the third owner since its inception in 1953. Involved in the day-to-day business, he assists the team in all areas from valuations, negotiating new sales and file progressing. He is usually the first person in and loves to make a cup of tea for when the team arrive. ”I am extremely proud of our team. Russell Stone

Russell Stone Property Consultant

Russell has been working in the Bow area for over 30 years, joining Meade’s in 1996. Specialising in the Conservation areas and in particular Tredegar Square, Russell has built a great rapport with many of its inhabitants in the area and has become a well-known Mile End celebrity in his own right. Although Russell has reduced his working hours, he still thrives on being recognised and is regularly contacted by new and old clients for advice and help in selling their property. Russell insists “the property market has changed a lot in 30 years, but the buzz about securing a sale never changes”.

Haris Miah

Haris Miah Lettings Manager

Haris has been with W J Meade for over 20 years, originally starting in the Bethnal Green office and then moving to our Bow flagship branch when we merged our offices in 2008. Having worked his way up, starting as a junior negotiator and now an experienced Lettings Manager, Haris is a familiar face in the area and an expert in his field, able to assist in any lettings or management query.

Karolina Karczewska

Karolina Karczewska Property Manager

Karolina is our senior property manager, having worked in the lettings and property management sector for over 10 years. Her day-today responsibilities mainly revolve around dealing with maintenance issues that tenants raise and working with landlords and contractors to get them resolved. Her great rapport with contractors, tenants and landlords helps her resolve issues before they get out of control.

Portia Anyanwu

Portia Anyanwu Lettings Administrator

Portia is our tenancy progressor at WJMeade, and is responsible for getting tenants ready for the let to commence. From taking them through the referencing process to creating the property file and compiling tenancy paperwork, she makes sure everything is compliant. As well as this, she also assists with any maintenance queries from landlords and tenants, aiding them for a successful tenancy.

Mert Gundes

Mert Gundes Property Inspector & Lettings Co-ordinator

Mert has a dual function, assisting both the lettings and property management teams. Mert is responsible for conducting our property inspections, reporting to landlords the condition of the property and dealing with any maintenance issues which need addressing. He also deals with any letting’s enquiries, booking and conducting viewings and tying up offers.

Gina Mason

Gina Mason Tenancy Administrator

Gina has worked in a variety of property management roles, working in the industry for over 10 years. Working on a part time basis, Gina’s main function is the co-ordinating and administering of tenancy renewals and addendums. As she has a lot of experience in the industry, Gina also assists where needed, covering holiday and with general property management queries.

Alfie Howliston

Alfie Howliston Sales Negotiator

As a core member of our well established and reputable W J Meade sales team, Alfie works closely with Billy Collins (sales manager) to get your property under offer. Alfie deals with all aspects of sales from; responding to enquiries and generating viewings to acquiring applicants and securing sales. Alfie is on hand to assist our vendors and buyers with any query or request they may have. With Billy's guidance and support, he is already becoming another familiar face in the area, adopting the strong customer service ethos which WJMeade embodies.

Jackie Edney

Jackie Edney Senior Accounts Advisor

Jackie has been with W J Meade for over 20 years, running the Accounts and Property Management functions for the whole company. Jackie has decided to begin winding down in the department and will now be working for us on a part time basis, helping manage the Property Management Accounts function as well as sharing her wealth of knowledge, training the rest of the team.

Amanda Henry-lomiglio

Amanda Henry-lomiglio Property & Sales Administrator

Amanda is our Property and Sales Administrator. Being a local girl (living in Bow), she has a great understanding and knowledge of the area. Based on the front desk, and the first point of contact when you visit the office, Amanda always has a welcoming smile. Managing the marketing of properties and sales administration, she ensures all our clients receive the highest standard of service. Amanda is a true multi-tasker and other duties involve, assisting the lettings team, social media updating, and actively being everyone’s rock.

Aleks Male

Aleks Male Financial Controller

Aleks took over as our financial controller in 2023 and manages all aspects of the accounts function for WJMeade, for both the lettings and property management side and also our general business operations. His expert qualifications and experience within similar roles means that he can answer almost any financial related query and solve any accounts problems which may arise.

William Bolitho

William Bolitho Sales Co-ordinator

Will is our newly appointed sales co-ordinator, working closely with the sales and branch managers to support you on your sales journey. His main responsibilities revolve around marketing and the on-boarding process, whilst your property is coming onto the market. He will be one of the first people in the sales team you meet (after valuation stage), arranging the professional photography and any contract paperwork. He also runs our social media pages, making sure your property is getting maximum marketing visibility.
